And We Are Off🚀

ZKM officially launched 13 July 2023. A zero-knowledge virtual machine (zkVM) solution, incubated by the MetisDAO Foundation, aims to establish Ethereum as the universal settlement layer for all blockchain and non-blockchain applications. ZKM’s open-source protocol combines optimistic rollups and ZK proofs, expanding the use cases of ZK technology and optimizing Layer 2 networks. ZKM plans to launch on the Ethereum Testnet in January 2024 and offers potential applications in decentralized finance (DeFi), Internet of Things (IoT), Zero-Knowledge Machine Learning (ZKML), and cloud computing.

Metis Fest

We couldn’t wait! ZKM partnered with Metis Fest to host our first event. Co-sponsored by MetisDAO Foundation, Polyhedra, and NodeReal, the event included insightful fireside chats and panels with industry leaders discussing the benefits of adopting ZKPs, cross-industry use cases, and enhancing privacy and data security in blockchain transactions.

Did you miss the event? We got you:

Following the panels and keynotes, Kevin Liu presented ZKM’s recent launch with its important positioning to create a seamless blockchain experience, followed by cheers with the amazing crowd.

Epic L2 Day

ZKM attended Epic L2 Day by EpicWeb, a one-day event for researchers, developers, and enthusiasts dedicated to Ethereum L2 Scaling on 18 July.

Jerome van de Graff, ZKM Research Advisor, gave a visionary workshop titled Hybrid Rollups using MIPS, explaining the MIPS architecture applied to zero knowledge technology and its role in supporting a Hybrid Rollup.

Later, Kevin Liu, ZKM CEO and Co-founder, moderated the panel Rollups and Beyond: Innovations, Opportunities, and Challenges with Offchain Labs, zkSync, Polygon Labs, and Taiko Co-founders. During the panel, they discussed the pros and cons of Optimistic v ZK Rollups and the strides we must collectively make to improve blockchain systems and processes. The panel was a roaring success as the audience engaged in the conversation and panelists partook in heated debate. Be sure to give this one a listen!

ZK Day

ZKM attended and sponsored ZK Day, provided by Manta Network and CoinTelegraph on 19 July. A fantastic event consisting of people who are honed in on the advancements of Zero Knowledge technology, Ming Guo, ZKM Chief Scientist joined in on the panel Layer2 Scalability and Infrastructure with Caldera, Scroll, zkSync, and Linea members and Co-founders. Life After Scaling for Ethereum
In our article discussing the road to Hybrid Rollup technology, we talked about the evolution of Ethereum’s scaling struggle. Within that discussion, we saw how an elegant and practical solution finally emerged: a layered blockchain design, with Layer 1 as the main chain dealing with only consensus and data availability, and Layer 2 as a Rollup to provide offloaded computation validation for all blockchain users, thus creating a scalable blockchain solution.
